Wednesday evening started off like any other Wednesday on the 7th floor creative office at LBi. Semi-finals in the Wii Tennis Tournament took place before everyone hopped on the north-bound 6 towards what Pete Johnson calls “the hipster bus” – the L train to Brooklyn. Our destination was The Gutter, and as one Yelp reviewer rhymes about it – “Retro alley. Lotsa booze. Gutter balls abound. I lose.”. So with drinks and balls in hand, a good time was to be had. Surprises of the evening included: a fair send-off for Nic Pescok as he took down our commander in chief Cedric, Emil throwing 30 frames of curve balls in a row (and his elbow living to tell about it), and Andrew Carlson talking a huge Detroit game, only to fail, then succeed after his “warmup” round by starting with a solid Turkey. That’s 3 strikes in a row to the non-Lebowski’s.
Everything seemed to be wrapping up, but I had a trick up my sleeve. Specifically one with horns. After sweet talking a couple of AD’s I convinced everyone to head down to Viva el Toro, a new spot in the ‘burg that thought the best addition to the already overly-hip area would be a mechanical bull. Drinks were ordered, waivers were signed, and the cowboy hat was passed around. I swear people spent more time on the mat then actually on the bull. Obvious props go to: Erica for not giving up and finally getting ON the bull, even if it only lasted for 5 seconds; Meg for capturing the heart and mind of the null operator who refused to make it go any faster than a walking donkey with asthma; and Cedric for actually doing it, even though he “rogue-peaced” shortly after hitting land again.
It’s a bummer that the nerds cough* nice folks upstairs don’t get to have as much fun as we do.
Til next time, buenos noche hombres.
