The challenge
To create a site to help our Executive Creative Director Simon Gill raise £2,500 for the Oxfam TrailTrekker 2011, a 30-hour, 100km overnight walk across the Yorkshire Dales. The cause? To help people in poverty build a better life.
Our solution
Inspired by Mr Gill’s infamous shaggy beard, we decided he should have his whiskers crafted into a commemorative style before attempting the TrailTrekker. The concept of ‘Man Walks into a Barber Shop’ was born and the interactive campaign site quickly followed. Visitors could donate and choose a selection of beardy styles such as Northern Monkey, Chin Strap, Wizard Walker and Dr Gizzle.
The results
The site raised £3,520 (with the final total being well over £4K). The highest bid was £199, with average bids of £27. A video showing the ‘de-bearding’ of Beardyman was also shown on the site, and Tweeted around the land. The beardy outcome? Northern Monkey was the deserved winner.
